Agfest 2021 is proud to be supporting
Canteen Tasmania as its official charity
partner.
Every year, another 23,000 young
people aged 12 to 25 are impacted
by cancer, whether it’s a close family
member’s diagnosis or their own. These
young people are also up to six times
more likely to face mental health issues
like depression and anxiety than others
their age.
That’s why Canteen provides free
practical and emotional support tailored
to the needs of young people. Through
Canteen, they learn to explore and deal
with their feelings about cancer and
connect with other young people in the
same boat. If they have been diagnosed themselves, we provide
specialist, youth-specific treatment teams based in major hospitals
across Australia.
Our overnight and one-day programs enable young people to
make new friends, develop skills to cope with cancer and have
some much-needed fun at the same time.
Every program aims to build supportive relationships with
others, reduce the sense of isolation, provide quality respite and
recreation and build effective coping
skills and strategies.
And if you’re in a rural or remote
area, or simply feel more comfy online,
Canteen Connect, at canteenconnect.
org.au, is our secure, online community
available 24/7 where young people can
connect with others in a similar situation,
check out events nationwide and chat to
a counsellor.
We also support parents via
Canteen Connect for Parents (parents.
